taster course - introduction to powerboating

This is for you if you are considering buying a boat or are just keen to get your family out on the water, to have a knowledge of what boating entails and the opportunity of driving the RIB rather than just going out on a 'skippered charter' - the course will be undertaken on one of our school ribs and include driving the RIB on the Solent with an introduction to IRPCS, buoyage, etc. including exiting and entry into the port of departure. Empasis on safety on the water, considering the weather, what to wear and lifejackets, the safety kit on the boat and driving the craft within individuals capabilities, travelling at a safe speed, etc.

Assumed knowledge: none, suitable for beginners and those considering owning a RIB/sportsboat prior to undertaking any more formal training
Minimum duration: 'a half-day' partly in the Training Centre with approx. 1.5 hours on the water with time for each to execute various exercises on including slow speed maneuvres and high speed driving
Minimum age: no minimum however this course is aimed at 'adults' and teenagers
Course content: includes theory and driving the RIB
Ability after the course: just a basic knowledge of driving a powerboat
Student to Instructor Ratio: no more than 6 drivers
